Buca di Beppo means “Joe’s basement” in English and it’s also the name of the Italian restaurant founded by a chef named Joe who migrated from Italy to the US. According to Alex Montes, Buca di Beppo’s international representative to train the front-of-house staff at the newly opened branch here in Manila, the first Buca di Beppo was established in Minneapolis in 1993. From once just being a dream of an immigrant, it grew to having a little over 90 branches worldwide.
Why open in Manila? “The Filipinos are great people, and we have great food, why not mix them together, right?” says Alex. Not to mention that we do love to eat especially with our family and friends, which Buca di Beppo is perfect for since their serving is huge, enough for everyone to enjoy for a reasonable price. The first branch in Manila and in Asia is located at the BGC area and it just recently opened its doors last December 1, 2017.
Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll see that it’s adorned by an abundance of memorabilia, vintage photographs, and murals. The restaurant’s interior décor is a feast for the eyes, which will make waiting for your food not such a bother.

Buca di Beppo is known for its half-pound meatball, so we had to try that and a few more dishes that you will also enjoy.
