Jericho Rosales oozes confidence that’s not at all irritating, at least to me. He’s had his journey in this cracked world of showbiz and have proven himself resilient over and over. Echo’s a made man and whether he knows this or not, he doesn’t make it a point to rub it in your face, instead you just know that he is by the way he speaks, acts, and the clever choices he make in life.
For a guy who doesn’t really have much time for hobbies, he makes sure that he finds pockets of moments to slip those fun things in, or he strategically incorporates it in his work. Let’s take his recent MMFF movie Siargao as an example. Echo loves the beach and he loves to surf and doing that project, he was able to hit two birds in one stone. Same goes with being the local brand ambassador of Wrangler, wherein recently, he got to work behind the scenes as a director for the video of the brand’s ongoing challenge #TrueWanderer and star in it. As a wanderer himself, he got to travel and ride his bike while working on this video, together with actress Arci Muñoz, the brand’s latest ambassador.
At 20:20, a bar co-owned by director and all-around good guy Quark Henares, Wrangler Philippines recently held the launch of said contest. I was able to get a few minutes of Echo’s time to have a cold, crisp San Miguel Pale Pilsen with him as we talk about the best thing about being a husband and why he likes his beer.
HOW DID WE MEET?
In La Union and it was a very, very, very rainy day. We were stuck in La Union, hirap no? Stuck in La Union, ang hirap nun.
Actually, that was the second time that we met. The first time was at a TV show taping. Someone who used to be a friend of mine, invited me to his taping and introduced me to Echo, who was the host of said show. We didn’t talk much but I was able to tell him that we had a common friend, which is Luke Landrigan, a pro-surfer and who owns the resort in La Union that we both got stuck in.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN ORDER TO HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYDAY?
Echo: You begin your day on a positive note, di ba? Shempre you have to start with thankfulness in your heart. I usually greet God, Jesus, my angels, the Holy Spirit, good morning. And then, I kiss my wife, and then I kiss my dogs. And then, it’s a great day.
WHERE DO YOU GO FOR A QUICK WEEKEND GETAWAY?
Echo: La Union, Tagaytay, for a quick ride siguro. I go to Subic or Clark. Do NLEX at 5am, it has the best sunrise, beautiful fog, and you’ll get amazing photographs.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A HUSBAND?
Echo: Married to Kim Jones. You get to make someone happy everyday, and you also get to annoy someone everyday. But seriously, you get that support and you get that awesome company everyday.
WHAT ARE THE THREE NECESSITIES WHEN YOU TRAVEL?
Echo: You need your Wrangler gear, you need your bike, you need some cash; some food. You need communication. I need a pen and paper. Don’t forget your camera, and something to read, maybe?
(Note: Three lang e! Hahaha!)
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Echo: Adventure, surfing, music, great projects, cool people, happy people, animals, kids.
“Learn to love even the most unlovable person in the world and you’d find yourself being happier and more at peace with everyone.”
WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE THAT WAS GIVEN TO YOU BY SOMEONE YOU LOOK UP TO?
Echo: For directing this video, I guess the best advice was to stick to your story board. Sa buhay, it’s actually, learn to love even the most unlovable person in the world and you’d find yourself being happier and more at peace with everyone.
WHY IS SAN MIGUEL PALE PILSEN YOUR FAVORITE DRINK?
Echo: Because of heritage. Because of tradition, kasama na ng pamilya yan e, ng barkada; paborito ni erpat. It’s not promoting drunkenness or anything like that, but it promotes conversation, celebration, and sharing good memories. I love that.
