What You Can Expect at the Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival 2018

On its second year, SINE NEGRENSE: NEGROS ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL will introduce a new set of local filmmakers and will feature celebrated movies from Negrense directors.

Exciting times are up ahead as Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival will be happening in a few days. The seven-day movie festival is on its second year and it is undoubtedly bigger than ever. Twenty short film entries will be introduced on two categories: Open and Intermediate, with a running theme of “Negrense New Wave 2.0”. Aside from that, seven Negrense film directors will also be featured through their works for the Negrense Master Series. These directors would be Jay Abello, Peque Gallaga, Richard Somes, Ronnie Lazaro, Vincent Soberano, Lawrence Fajardo, and Borgy Torre. Actor Joel Torre, who is also a co-star in Richard Somes’ Yanggaw, would also be in attendance to give a talk after the screening.

With the theme “Fuel to burning passion,” Sine Negrense continues to provide an outlet to bring out a new generation of local filmmakers and aficionados, as well as to bring focus the importance of national identity through cinema and storytelling. More cinematheques in the Negros Island Region is also in the works courtesy of the Film Development Council of the Philippines in cooperation with the Negros Museum.
