At the Privato Hotel in Quezon City, premier theater production The Sandbox Collective, announced two of their highlights at the Sandbox Fest 2020. Together with their sister company 9 Works Theatrical, The Sandbox Collective will bring back Duncan Macmillan’s Lungs and Every Brilliant Thing. Both sold out productions will return to the stage through a shared space at Zobel de Ayala Recital Hall, 2/F Maybank Performing Arts Theater, 9th Avenue cor. 26th Street, BGC, Taguig City, with the advocacy to expand and normalize the conversation on mental health and climate change.

Lungs is a ninety-minute play between a man and a woman discussing whether or not they should have a child. It features movie and TV actor Jake Cuenca and theater actress Sab Jose. Both were nominated in the Philstage Gawad Buhay Awards and BroadwayWorld Philippines Awards for their roles in Lungs’ 2018 run. Returning as director is Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan and Caisa Borromeo as assistant director.

Teresa Herrera, who will be alternating with Kakki Teodoro, will both return for Every Brilliant Thing. The play talks about mental illness—focusing on depression and suicidal depression. According to Duncan Macmillan these common and yet very serious topics should have a way that people can talk about that is constructive and complex and nuanced and grown up and unflinching. But also, accessible and funny. Directing the play will again be Jenny Jamora.
